Streets is Talkin’ – Carlos Iqui in Simplesmente Sintonia #3

Screen Shot 2015-10-02 at 12.46.59 AM

Carlos “Iqui” Henrique is one of the ILLest of the new generation of Brazilian skaters that have been making the skateboard industry sit up and take notice. You might have seen him kill it at #JKwon with that switch frontside flip over the freaking block going about Mach 10, if you haven’t, dude you’re seriously slippin’!

With a smooth style that is equal parts tech and multiple line combos, Carlos’ skating is easy on the eyes and filled with NBDs that will make you re-watch his parts with a mix of disbelief and head scratching “what the hell?” Always taking a refreshingly different approach to skating, Carlos’ part lays to rest the notion that everything that can be done has already been done.

This little known gem of a part from João Pedro Romero‘s 2011 Brazilian video Simplesmente Sintonia #3 has plenty of Carlos’ signature textbook tech and a reminder to all of us that skating fast just makes everything look so much better. And yes, that was a switch flip frontblunt. Peep the video for some of Carlos’ magic! Brasil STAND UP!! – HK

Carlos rides for Boulevard Skateboards, Thunder Trucks, Gold Wheels and DC Shoes.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re new to skateboarding or are a 20 year veteran of the skate game. The name HUF should be more than familiar to you, and the man behind the brand, Keith Hufnagel is one of the most respected pro skateboarders from out of the East Coast in the past two decades. A stalwart on the Thunder and Spitfire program, this East Coast powerhouse and now West Coast transplant is part-owner of HUF, Keith’s career as a skateboarding business owner is just getting started with HUF’s more recent foray into the footwear game.

From the early days of the HUF brand as a sneaker boutique in SF to their SoCal migration with a retail front on Fairfax, Keith has been instrumental in steering the brand through the vagaries of the skateboarding business cycle and making moves to enter the ultra-competitive footwear game. In this short little Guest Talk interview with Tokyo’s VHS MAG, Keith talks about coming up on the East Coast, getting sponsored by Thunder and Spitfire through Shrewgy (now of ACE trucks) , running HUF, the infamous plantlife socks, and his vision for how HUF fits into skateboarding. A worthwhile watch for a little behind the scenes at a skater owned brand built from the ground up.

A part of the re-invigorated eS Footwear program and a regular fixture in Patrik Wallner’s Visual Traveling series, you may know Organika’s Walker Ryan as the well-spoken and equally well-traveled skateboarder hailing from Napa Valley. But did you know that Walker is also quite a manny technician as well?

Well, it’s no surprise that Walker just put out a really bangin’ Berrics 2UP entry. The St Helena skatepark local has one of the smoothest styles in skateboarding and my personal favorite switch backside flip. The emphasis in Walker’s part is above all style coupled with an unconventional eye towards each obstacle while always making everything look so effortlessly precise. That bank to ledge slappy crook revert switch nose manny 180 out is insane! And I’d be hard pressed to name someone with a better nose manny nollie frontside flip (have you seen his latest line with this very trick at JKwon’s gap to ledge? You need to see it!).

Walker rides for Organika Skateboards and Apparel, Thunder Trucks, Spitfire Wheels, Grizzly Griptape, eS Footwear, Bones Swiss, Remind Insoles, DaKine, and Diamond.

Streets Is Talkin’: Shane Goes

In this installment of Streets is Talkin’, we showcase none other than Australian powerhouse Shane O’Neill’s new street part “Shane Goes” by Skate Mental and Thrasher Magazine.

Shane Goes 1 Shane did what at Wallenberg? Wait, is that VX?

Skate Mental’s Shane O’Neill has been on a tear for the past 5 years, putting out a non-stop barrage of NBDs that make it seem like his skateboarding is perpetually on video game mode. If you think you’ve seen it all, be prepared to be blown away even more by this part.

Shane Oneill 1Without giving too much away, he opens the video with a heavy NBD at Wallenberg(the 9 club!). Has a switch flip backlip on a rail, plus a crooked grind nollie flip late flip out on a rail. Oh and he so casually bigspin backlips the Sylmar rail and switch flips a triple set in the rain.

We also dig the choice of Beach House as the soundtrack. And we think we might have broken the rewind button on our comp!! Filmed and edited by James James. Go watch this now!!

Shane rides for Skate Mental, Thunder Trucks, Grizzly Grip, Spitfire Wheels, FKD Bearings, Nike SB, Fourstar Clothing, Monster, Diamond
